Typhoon Andrew Caused a Flood
Chen Chih (Lydia) Lin from Taiwan
I was born in Taipei City, which is the capital of Taiwan. In my country, we have natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and floods. Generally, we have over a dozen earthquakes per year, all kinds, mild and strong. Also, we have several typhoons during the typhoon season that runs from June until October.
I remember that one summer vacation while I was studying in high school, a typhoon hit which was called Andrew. It still stays in my mind. Andrew caused rain, really heavy rain.
The stream near my house overflowed its banks, and water began to come into my house. My parents, younger brother, sister, and I moved our most important things up to the storage space.
My parents and I moved the refrigerator up on the dining table to prevent it from being damaged. Our basement filled up with water so to be safe, we had to escape from our house to my cousin's house, which was on the second floor. The flood got higher and higher.
After the flood stopped, we went back home and cleaned up everything. Our couch was gone, and the harderst thing to clean up was the basement because it was in terrible condition. There was a lot of mud, so it was really hard to clean up.
